Anti-Racism and Decolonial Education Courses

Decolonial Education 101 to advanced

In this course, we will introduce the learner to the basics of anti-racism and decolonial education. We will progressively go deeper into the content to more advanced considerations when it comes to decolonial thinking. While anti-racism education has been prioritized in recent years, decolonial education is important to focus on because racism is not the only factor that harms equity-deserving communities: colonialism and classism all contribute to creating worse race relations. Usually, conflicts arise in society when one group operates with old mainstream mental models and the other group has moved on to new ones. Therefore, behind every conflict is usually a clash of realities due to a social transformation that is being ignored by one or both parties. This training will help you identify the old mental models that you still operate with and will help point you to how you need to adapt your thinking. Human psychology usually works this way:
  1. We have ideas, usually arising from mental models acquired through social conditioning.
  2. Our ideas create perceptions that filter the way we view reality.
  3. These perceptions then energize emotions in us.
  4. And finally these emotions lead us to action or inaction on a particular topic or situation.
In this training, we will tackle the root cause of colonial behaviors by addressing the ideas first and we will link it to environmental justice work. More details about the course will be provided soon.
