Kalsia Rice

Program Coordinator

Kalsia Rice is a recent graduate of the University of Guelph, where she completed her degree in Marine and Freshwater Biology. While her academics focused on aquatic systems, her coursework also encompassed geography and watershed studies, which collectively shaped a broad and interdisciplinary interest in ecology. Her interests reflect a dedication to ecological understanding and to fostering meaningful connections between people and the environment.

Kalsia has held a range of roles within environmental conservation and education initiatives, where she contributed to both community engagement and hands-on restoration efforts. She has communicated the importance of protecting native species to diverse audiences and individuals with varying levels of environmental awareness. Her work included delivering presentations, leading demonstrations, and participating in invasive species removal to support the regeneration of native habitats.

In addition to her work, Kalsia rears butterflies and moths in the summer, using their growth and transformation as a means of fostering curiosity and connection with the natural world. By raising these organisms through their life cycles, she creates opportunities for others to observe and appreciate often-overlooked aspects of nature.

She documents these transformations and expresses them through creative mediums such as drawings and slideshows, using this work to demonstrate the vital role of green spaces and to advocate for their care as a shared responsibility.
